What you need to know about open enrollment and how to enroll in a health insurance policy
Open enrollment is the time period during which consumers can purchase a health insurance plan. If you do not buy a health insurance plan during Open Enrollment, you may not be able to purchase health insurance – unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period - leaving you with a gap in coverage and a possible penalty to pay.
How to shop
The Open Enrollment period for 2024 will run from November 1, 2023, through January 15, 2024.
Shopping On-Exchange (NevadaHealthLink.com):
Consumers can shop for a health insurance policy on the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange ("Exchange"), the state agency that connects eligible Nevada residents to qualified health plans through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link. Nevadans seeking coverage on the Exchange will enroll at NevadaHealthLink.com and not the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace, HealthCare.gov. Consumers who plan on shopping or re-enrolling on Nevada Health Link are encouraged to start their research and planning process early. Consumers who are interested in obtaining subsidies or tax credits to help pay for health insurance can purchase a policy through Nevada Health Link.
Window shopping on NevadaHealthLink.com will be available starting Oct. 1st. Nevada Health Link always encourages consumers to use the free assistance of a licensed enrollment professional or call 1-800-547-2927.
Shopping Off-Exchange:
If you're planning to shop off the Exchange, you can find approved rates and plan info on our Division's website. We've made it easy for you to sort and find what you need, whether it's by age, county, or other factors.
Nevadans can also reach out directly to an insurance carrier for help purchasing a health insurance policy. Window shopping on the Division’s website at http://healthrates.doi.nv.gov/Wizard.aspx will be available starting September 29.
The Division encourages every Nevadan to protect themselves and their family against a great financial burden from a health issue. Dealing with illness or injury is sufficiently stressful without adding a financial component into the mix.
